Beetles not only look unpleasant, but they can actually destroy wood in your home and cause more damage than you realize. Brian Hanly is a spokesperosn for JP McHale Pest Management Inc., the leader in pest control and extermination across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. If you suspect that you have wood-destroying beetles in your home, you will need to treat the actual wood. When you go to a store like Home Depot, they will tell you if the wood is actually treated or not. All the wood in the home should be treated and we put a coating on the wood so beetles cannot eat their way through it.
You can tell if you have wood-destroying beetles by the presence of small holes in the wood. These holes will be smooth, as the beetles do not leave anything behind. Everything will be all smooth and the holes will be small. And if you see one, you will most likely see more.
Detecting Exit Holes
Wood-destroying beetles traditionally infest homes that have old structural timbers which have not been kiln-dried. Our expert technicians are trained to detect their exit holes, which are traditionally observed in the wood joists. By looking at the holes, they will be able to identify if the beetles are active or not.
We use eco-friendly Borate treatments to control these creatures. Sometimes, in rare instances, we may need to bring in a fumigation team. But wood-destroying beetles are a special type of insect, which comes in many shapes and sizes, and we have to take extra care when dealing with them. They are not a common household insect that we see a lot.
