Professional Tree Help

Brian Hanly | February 24, 2010

What do you do to keep your trees in the best shape possible? The obvious answer is to invest in a professional arbor care program. Brian Hanly is a spokesperson for JP McHale Pest Management Inc., the leader in pest control and extermination across the three states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Here, he talks about what these inventive and innovative programs entail.

Having a beautiful lawn is one thing, but no lawn is completely gorgeous unless it is complemented by beautiful trees. And no tree can be completely beautiful, or healthy, if it is infested by pests. That’s why as part of our Arbor Care Program, we regularly patrol your trees and shrubs throughout the season and inspect them at each visit for insect, disease, and physical damage. We treat infestations over threshold numbers (which means enough to damage plants) and make notes of improper cultural methods (mulch to high, weed whackers damaging trunks). Your trees will thank us.

Other parts of our Arbor Care Program may include:

Systemic Injection: This scientific approach to tree care protects your trees from the inside out. Like a vaccine, the material is injected into the cambium of the tree or root zones of shrubs. The material is transferred up the plant into leaves, where it will control pests when they start to feed. We also use this method if a tree is overhanging a pond or a home or in sensitive situations.

Deep Root Feeding: Deep root fertilization gives your plants the nutrients they need to thrive. We inject organic fertilizer into plant root zones under pressure to elevate compacted soils and deliver needed nutrients to root zones. In the forest, plants lose leaves when they drop to the ground, turn into top soil and are used again as fertilizer by your plants. At your home when leaves fall, they are raked away, which unfortunately deprives your trees and shrubs from beneficial nutrients, making them yellow or chlorotic. A healthy tree is a happy tree and can ward off insects and disease more readily.

Anti-Desiccant: We like to say that this application is like lip balm for your evergreens. During the winter months, cold air can draw moisture out of your plants, which means it will leaves the leaves of your trees with brown edges. This application is a clear waxy coating that holds moisture in and will also give foliage a shiny look. We can also combine this application with our deer repellent products.

At JP McHale Pest Management Inc., we do everything we can to take care of your trees in the best way possible. Perhaps that’s why our Arbor Care Program is one of the most popular services we offer — because we deliver!
