Fiore Belmonte is the general manager of the Springfield, IL-based Prairie Insulation LLC, a full-service insulation company and Energy Star Rater, that conducts energy audits on homes and commercial properties in a program that is backed by the government. Launched in 2005, Prairie Insulation, which serves central Illinois, including Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Bloomington, and Jacksonville, has grown to be the largest insulator in the area. After 10 years of working for other insulation companies in the West, Belmonte was drawn to Illinois, where he feels he fills a niche. Today, the company offers insulation in all its forms, from cellulose to spray foam, for commercial properties and family homes. It specializes in the spray foam and air barrier system Icynene, which improves the air quality of properties. A safety minded company, Prairie Insulation is certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and conducts combustion safety testing before and after all projects. What makes the company stand out, says Belmonte, is its ability to conduct energy audits designed to help people maximize their resources and save money on their energy bills. “We’re unique in that we’re not only insulators,” he adds, “but we are energy auditors.”
