Treating Allergies With Acupuncture

Jenny C. Lee | November 18, 2010

At The Healing Lab Acupuncture Clinic, herbalist, acupuncturist, and energetic nutritional testing master Jenny Lee is able to offer her Palo Alto patients relief through acupuncture and acupressure. Using this combination modeled after an effective Japanese technique, she says that first pressure is applied to open up the channels in your affected meridian. In Chinese medicine, there are 12 meridians, each representing a major organ. Once the blocked meridians have been properly opened, it is only then that needles are applied through the proven acupuncture techniques. This idea of using acupressure before acupuncture makes the procedure mild for patients while also providing relief from a number of ailments, including allergies.

As the seasons change, Lee says that a number of patients know to come to The Healing Lab Acupuncture Clinic once their allergy symptoms kick in. There are usually two reasons that allergies could be affecting you so severely, and it is important that your acupuncturist determine your specific condition before proceeding with treatment.

In many cases, Lee says, the lung meridian is blocked, so congestion, wheezing, and overall achiness could be a problem. This would then require pressure to be applied to the blocked channel so that the energy from the rest of your body and the 11 other meridians can connect with one another again.

Alternatively, Lee says, it may be that your hormones are blocked. What many fail to realize, Lee explains, is that a hormone deficiency can cause allergies too, because your body does not have the energy necessary to fight off external invaders like pet dander and pollen.

It is not just seasonal allergies that can be cured inside The Healing Lab Acupuncture Clinic though. Lee says that after several treatments, even severe allergies such as food-related allergies, thyroid, and autoimmune issues, can be corrected as well. In these instances, Lee says that the problem nearly always lies within the hormone meridian. While she does warn that the change does not happen overnight, the experts at The Healing Lab Acupuncture Clinic are able to gradually increase your hormone deficiency and build up your immune functions until your body is able to fend off toxicities that would normally trigger allergic reactions. Over time, she continues, you will not only feel healthier, but you will be able to be around, use, or eat whatever it was that you once thought you were allergic to.

While Lee does point out that the effects of acupuncture and acupressure cannot be guaranteed, she says that patients report an even higher success rate when they combine healing treatments with nutritional testing. Initially, Lee recommends that patients visit The Healing Lab Acupuncture Clinic on a frequent basis—sometimes as much as two times a week. Over time, however, you will reach a plateau where all of the symptoms have been removed and your body can heal on its own. At that time, it is best to gradually decrease your visits until you are scheduled to come in for checkups on a less frequent basis.
