Stair Lifts to Save Your Independence

Dave Meyer | July 16, 2010

Dave Meyer is President of Best Medical Equipment, which has been providing Arlington Heights Mobility products to rent or purchase to people in Illinois and Wisconsin since 1989. He knows the difference a stair lift can make to someone who has difficulty accessing a staircase, and how important it can be in regaining a level of personal independence. Here, he talks about how his firm can help people with limited mobility regain a sense of freedom again.

Best Medical Equipment’s primary focus in the marketplace is to provide a group of products to make the home more accessible. Our goal is to provide products to enable elderly people to be able to go about their daily living, both inside and outside the home. We start with mobility products that provide accessibility such as Arlington Heights stair lifts and ramping for wheelchair or scooters.

Let’s assume a person is in a wheelchair. In that case, he will need to get into his home, around his home, and upstairs, and we provide products to enable the person to do that easily. We also provide products to enable people to leave their homes and use their cars, go the a restaurant or mall, or meet any other appointments that may be necessary for their daily living.

Important Accreditations

We are accredited through Medicare and through various accreditation associations that are nationally recognized for various medical equipment needs. We are nationally accredited by the American Commission for Healthcare. We do a lot of Arlington Heights stair lifts, a lot of porch lifts – which are also known as wheelchair lifts - for the home, and a lot of ramps. We also modify bathrooms so that the person can utilize the bathroom even with disabilities.

What we are about, in essence, is enabling disabled individuals to live their daily lives and get where they have to go either through various mobility products or mobility aids. We have about 5,000 other products as well, ranging from walking canes to residential elevators. If there is no way to use the stairs, then a residential elevator can be installed in the home so that the person can go upstairs that way as well.

About Our Stair Lifts

The Arlington Heights stair lifts we use are primarily battery-driven. That way, even if there is a power failure, the user can still operate the lift. With a battery-driven lift, operation is possible even if there is a fire - people can still get up and down the stairs, and out of the house to safety. Our stair lifts also have remote controls similar to garage door openers. That means you can push a button to send it down to you, and push a button to send it back up.

We have units where the bottom of the track can flip up out of the way so that it’s not in the path of the stairs and does not obstruct people from getting by. We also sell stair lifts that will go up the stairs and around corners, which can help if you have a landing and the stairs go to the right, for example.

We also have an inclined platform lift that goes up the stairs with the wheelchair for someone who cannot get out of the the wheelchair to sit in the stair lift. That type of stair lift can accommodate people with a wide range of disabilities. Give us a call today to find out more about the products we offer, and to have a free consultation in your home.
