How Much Will It Cost to Clean Out My Home?

Ronald Wilkes | January 11, 2010

Trash removal specialist Ronald Wilkes is the owner of Charlotte Dumpster Service. A growing company, Charlotte Dumpster Service serves homeowners and business owners in all of the surrounding counties in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. Here, Wilkes helps us estimate how much an average homeowner will need to pay to have his home cleaned out.

It can be difficult to give a general estimate for how much a homeowner can expect to pay to have a crew like ours clean out his home simply because homes vary so much in size and people have different amounts of trash that they need hauled. However, some basic guidelines can help determine how much a homeowner can expect to spend.

When a client calls my office and says that he needs to have a property cleaned out, the first thing we will usually do is sit down and talk about the scope of the job. I will ask questions to get a sense of how many dumpsters I am going to need, and how many people are going to be necessary to get the job done.

As a general rule of thumb, when I put two men on a job for a full house cleaning, they can usually clean out that entire house in one day. Obviously that depends on size, but I am talking about an average-sized home.

By talking with the homeowner before starting the project, though, I can get a clear sense of how many dumpsters we will need to finish the job. By getting the right number of dumpsters and the right size out to the home right at the beginning of a project, we can make things go smoother and more quickly on working day.

Specific prices for a full home clean out vary by company and home size. However, at Charlotte Dumpster Service, I generally charge about $300 in labor and $300 per dumpster when cleaning out a rental property. So for the majority of landlords who would be using our service, they can expect to spend $600 to $900, depending on the scope of the job.

Although we can get rid of nearly everything inside most homes — no matter the weight or size — it is important that homeowners remember we cannot dispose of certain materials. Hazardous materials such as batteries, oil, paint, pesticides, and tires must be disposed of separately by homeowners. We can, however, provide the phone numbers and contact information that the homeowner will need to get reach the right people to discuss disposing those hazardous materials.

In addition, here at Charlotte Dumpster Service, we don’t just clean out rental properties and homes. Our crew can also be hired to clean out commercial buildings, business locations, restaurants, and warehouses.
