When your project involves large quantities of junk or debris, having a dumpster on site just makes sense. But is dumpster rental something you can afford? It should be, says Tom Driscoll of Framingham dumpster rental company Yellow Can Man. There are many factors that go into the cost of a dumpster rental, he explains. Understanding the scope of your project in advance is an important part of choosing the right dumpster rental service and ultimately keeping your costs down.
Size
The first and most significant element of dumpster rental pricing is based on the size of the dumpster you need. Dumpster rental companies offer sizes ranging from 10 cubic yards all the way to 40. The size you need will depend on the scope of your project. Yellow Can Man, Driscoll says, offers two sizes of dumpsters – 10 yards and 15 yards. These are two of the most popular dumpster sizes and are ideal for residential projects.
Weight
Another factor in the cost of your dumpster rental is the amount of weight you’ll be allowed to put into the container. Most companies impose a limit – called a weight allowance – on the amount of waste that can be put into a single dumpster before additional fees are imposed. Be sure you understand a company’s weight allowances before you make your final decision, Driscoll says, and beware of extremely low rates on the dumpsters themselves. Sometimes companies charge less up front but make up the difference in overage charges. The more you know in advance about how much waste your project is likely to generate, the better prepared you’ll be to make the most economical decision.
Rental Fees
Rental fees are another thing to be aware of when hiring a dumpster rental company. Most companies allow you to keep the dumpster for a certain amount of time before rental fees are incurred – usually two or three weeks. After that time has passed, however, you will likely be charged a small fee for each week you keep the dumpster thereafter.
Extras
Be aware also that some companies tack extra fees, like fuel surcharges, on to their bills for dumpster rental. Driscoll considers this a “hidden” fee and therefore doesn’t impose surcharges on his customers. On the other hand, some extra fees are necessary. There are certain items, Driscoll explains, that can’t be put into a dumpster. These items aren’t accepted at the transfer station, and therefore require special handling. If your project involves these items, Driscoll says, his company is still willing to handle them, but for a fair price. Be sure to ask about any excluded items when you set up your service.
Why Choose Yellow Can Man?
Straightforward pricing and a generous weight allowance are two good reasons to choose Yellow Can Man, Driscoll says. “I don’t like hidden fees and bad surprises,” he explains. “So I do what I can to make things easy and affordable for our customers.”
