Chris Kopecky is founder and lead counsel of The Traffic Lawyers, P.A. He is located in Overland Park, Kansas, but serves the three states of Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. Here, he discusses why hiring a traffic lawyer can actually help you save money on car insurance, not the other way around.
Hiring a traffic lawyer will help keep your insurance rates as low as possible. Insurance companies base their rates on how many tickets and accidents a person has received over a period of time such as three years, among other factors. Because a single ticket may stay on your driving record for a minimum of three years, it is always in your best interest to try and prevent that from happening.
Two-Fold Approach
The Traffic Lawyers have a two-fold approach to traffic tickets. The first and best approach is to prevent a traffic ticket from ever reaching your driving record. This is by far the cheapest and most efficient approach.
In the event that you fail to get hold of The Traffic Lawyers until after a ticket is already on your record, options are still available to you to try and remove them from your record. That, however, would depend largely upon the jurisdiction in which you were charged.
Generally speaking, we are able to set aside guilty pleas for moving violations up to one year old, which helps many of our clients reduce their already high insurance rates. This option is not available in some courts and it is possible in other courts to go back more than one year.
