Did you know that a whole house re-pipe can take just one day? Rick Hedge does. He runs The Plumber’s Plumber, serving parts of southwestern Florida, and he knows the difference the new pipes can make to the quality of water in a home, as he discusses in detail here.
We recommend re-piping home water pipes when the customer has numerous leaks, whether under or above slab. If the pipes are over 10 years old, we find that when a customer gets one leak, oftentimes it leads to numerous leaks. Sometimes, the best solution is to re-pipe the whole house.
We strategically locate the pipes in the walls, and we minimize the holes that we cut in people’s walls to get pipes to each fixture. Then a little drywall repair is always necessary.
Done in One Day
A whole house re-pipe can be done in as little as one day. People are surprised that it can be so quick, but we don’t trade the quality of our work for speed. We don’t want to be so quick that it affects our quality as we always strive to do the best job we can.
When we re-pipe, we always recommend replacing any shower valves and taking a close look at the water heater as well. If the water heater has any visible signs of leaks or rust, we then recommend having it replaced at the same time, just to be safe.
Also, when we re-pipe, we make sure to put in a new shut-off valve on the exterior of the house. This will guarantee that there are no more leaks. After all, pipe corrosion begins the moment that pipes are put into service in a building. Over time, this corrosion can collect lead and other harmful elements, cause leaks, and obstruct water flow.
In just 20 years’ time, as much as 70% of the original capacity of the pipes can be lost. Apart from leaks, homeowners can tell there is a problem when the water tastes and smells bad and is a foul color. Having a whole house re-pipe can make a tremendous difference to a home and the quality of the water within it.
