Many people assume that solar panels and photovoltaic systems only make sense in sunny climates such as Florida or Arizona. It comes as a great surprise to them that New Jersey is the second highest solar powered state in the nation, behind California. Why would a small, northeastern state with its cold winters and less than 4.5 hours of sunlight a day have more solar production than Texas, New Mexico and the other Southern states? The reason has to do with incentives. Vadim Daynovsky, President of Essex County, NJ-based Green Essex Solar, explains.
One of the main motivations for NJ residents to invest in an Essex County, NJ solar panel system for the home has to do with the high price of New Jersey’s Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). These credits assure a large annual return to both solar investors and homeowners putting solar panels on their roofs to offset their electric bills.
As outside investors are rushing into the state to build huge solar farms, local New Jerseyites are also beginning to wake up to the significant energy savings provided by solar. “Every week we end up having to prove to an incredulous home or small business owner that the high return on any solar investment in New Jersey is not a hoax,” explains Daynovsky. “But once most people see and understand the 30% per year or more returns that we can achieve for them, they usually sign the paperwork pretty quickly.” Green Essex Solar, leading Essex County, NJ PV installation company, is one of the reasons behind New Jersey’s solar boom, as the company and its highly experienced engineers, installers and solar consultants routinely lock in substantial and concrete financial returns to their residential and commercial customers, for decades in advance.
From the technological perspective, while New Jersey’s climate is colder and less sunny than many other states, the difference in solar panels’ performance is not as drastic. The photovoltaic panels use sunlight and not the sun’s heat to produce electricity. So, while in the winter New Jersey is not favored with a lot of heat from the sun, your solar panels will still produce plenty of energy for your home from the available sunlight (especially since the air conditioners, a huge electricity drain in the summer, are off). Even when it might appear that the New Jersey sun is completely blocked by clouds, enough sunlight will reach your solar panels to make a large difference to your electric meter.
Given the excellent incentives and enough available sunlight, New Jersey’s home and business owners can expect a significant return on their green solar investment, despite NJ’s seemingly unfavorable position on the map. Yet with solar’s ever-advancing technology, it takes an elite, service-oriented company to keep up. Green Essex Solar’s top notch team of professionals fully justifies the company motto, “make green by going green.” In providing you with an environmentally beneficial solar system that simultaneously eliminates most of your electric bill, Vadim and Green Essex Solar manage to stay ahead of the game.
