Only one diet can lead to permanent weight loss, says Dr. Anju Mathur runs the Angel Longevity Medical Center in Los Angeles. Here she discusses the hCG diet, as part of her Center’s Slim and Trim At Last weight-loss program.
It is being claimed and it is true that the hCG diet cures obesity. It resets the hypothalamus, so it resets the metabolic rate of the body. The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that is responsible for controlling many parts of the body’s functions, including feeding, breathing, drinking and even temperature.
Normally on a low-calorie diet the metabolic rate is lower. So even if you consume fewer calories, it will still be able to store the fat. But the hCG hormone, which is a natural hormone found in pregnant women, will break down the fat and reset the point in the hypothalamus. That’s important as it is the seat of the body’s endocrine function, as well as the seat of hunger, anxiety, moods and emotions.
Resetting the Hypothalamus
When you do the treatment with the hCG hormone, you are resetting the hypothalamus to a more optimal level. Say that normally you consume 2,500 calories a day. When you go on our Slim and Trim protocol, you are in effect consuming 3,500 calories a day, and losing one pound a day. When you finish the program the hypothalamus is set on a target of 3,500 calories; it thinks that is what your metabolic rate should be. So when you get off the program, that is what the hypothalamus is still set at. So if you consume 2,000 calories a day you will be just fine, and not gain the weight back. So that is how it is curing obesity.
I don’t see any other program that works precisely in this way. You can lose fat on other diets, but you are actually also losing a lot of muscle and water from the body. There is no resetting of the metabolic weight either. So, it is not a permanent treatment like the Slim and Trim protocol is.
