What Are Geothermal Heating Systems?

Here, he talks about how a geothermal heating solution might be right for your home, if you are able to dig deep…

Geothermal heating systems have became a lot more popular lately. People are finally beginning to realize that our earth has a consistent temperature, and is a great place to tap into renewable energy that anyone can use.

What happens with a geothermal system is there is what is called a thermal loop, which is piping run under the ground. That piping will either heat or cool a liquid that goes through that pipe. That goes through a geothermal pump which can then be used to heat or cool the home. This can be done much more efficiently than using standard HVAC equipment.

Large Project

Installing a geothermal heating system is definitely a large project. It will take a couple of days to do an installation as it will require either boring a couple of holes into the ground, or in a larger house in the country, trenching some areas in fields and laying down piping. However, with that said, it will, on average, be about 45% more efficient than a radiant heating system.

And, of course, if you install a geothermal heating system it will qualify for the government’s 30% renewable energy tax credit. And for someone who is going to stay in his home for a while, it will more than pay for itself over the years.

More and More Popular

Geothermal heating is a technology that has been around for many years, in fact, geothermal heating pumps have been in use since about the 1940s. However, it is really starting to now gain popularity. While temperatures fluctuate above ground, down below the earth’s surface, the temperature stays relatively constant. A geothermal heat pump will be able to heat your home, cool it and also heat water, with the right equipment.

People are definitely becoming more and more conscious about ways they can help the environment and save money, and this is a great one to invest in. Call us today to find out more about this innovative way to heat your home.
