The thought of having any unwanted pests in your home or mold in your basement is definitely cringe worthy. But imagine having hundreds of those pests or entire walls engrossed by mold. It’s almost too much to bear.
Unfortunately, this is the reality for some businesses and public services. In a home, a bug is limited to a space that is only so big. So, eventually one member of the colony is likely to be spotted. But, in a town park, these pests are usually left to multiply and cause destruction.
Such was the case in Knife River Indian Villages, a park in North Dakota. In 1995, park officials noticed that one structure had a significant number of powder beetles that had taken refuge inside it. After doing some research, they were told that the beetles’ lifespan was only seven years and that they would soon see a significant drop in the number of beetles, so there was no need to worry. Fast forward six years and it didn’t seem that the beetle population had diminished; in fact, it appeared to be growing. While the park’s staff knew something had to be done, they were at a loss as of what to do. After all, they had to keep in mind the wildlife in the park, the trees, soil and overall well-being of visitors. So, instead of choosing fumigation, they decided to try ThermaPureHeat. The process, which was conducted by members of Precision Environmental, was successful and the beetles were exterminated without any residual damage to the structure or the park.
This example is not an isolated experience. In fact, Jon Nelson of Precision Environmental in California, explains that his team has been a part of a number of similar large-scale projects. And in many of these situations, Nelson and his coworkers were able to use heat to remedy the problem without damaging any surroundings structures. In addition, using heat is pretty much undisruptive to the flow of a business or housing complex, it is odorless, and it is chemical-free.
At the University of California, Santa Barbara, Nelson said that there had been significant mold growth at some of the libraries, threatening the safety of these building. By hiring Precision Environmental who used ThermaPureHeat, the university saved a significant amount of money by not having to remove any walls or replace any building material.
Even military bases have called upon the services Precision Environmental, and Nelson says that he has been a part of rodent exterminations and mold removal on these government facilities. Not only does the team remediate the problem, but they are also able to use the elevated temperatures to sanitize the environment afterward. Even though mice are properly removed, he says, they can still leave behind a number of harmful viruses. These too also need to be properly taken care of.
