Learning that you have bed bugs in your home or mold growing in your basement is hard news to swallow. Since you’ve always considered your home to be clean and healthy, the thought of sharing it with unwanted pests probably sends a shiver up your spine.
Since you can’t wrap your mind around how this problem even started, it can be nearly impossible to think of a solution. Jon Nelson of Precision Environmental says you should skip the store-bought products and that routine washes and scrubbing won’t work. Instead, he says you should call an environmental contractor in your area you who is licensed to work with ThermaPureHeat. You will be amazed, he continues, at how quickly your problems are cleaned away.
What is ThermaPureHeat?
This method was originally designed as an environmentally friendly and safe alternative to chemical fumigation. It uses clean, dry, odorless heat instead of chemicals to kill mold, termites, and bacteria that have made their way into your home.
How does it work?
Nelson explains that is a proven, engineered process for heating a building to elevated temperatures that have been proven to kill bugs and bacteria. It is effective, he continues, for use in entire homes and buildings as well as isolated areas like a single bedroom or even just one wall. And, since the process uses only heat, you don’t have to worry about inhaling any harmful chemicals.
What can you expect?
First, the area that needs to be treated is wrapped with thermal tarps. Then, using special heaters - either electric or propane powered ones that are placed outside the home — hot air is directed into the room through ducts which raise the temperature as high as 150 degrees, says Nelson. To distribute the heat evenly around the room and to ensure that everything is being property treated, the team that comes to your home will use fans for circulation, and digital thermometers to regulate the temperature.
How should you prepare?
During the process, Nelson recommends that you leave your home until you are instructed to return because the extreme temperatures may be uncomfortable. The company you have contracted may ask you to move certain items in advance. For the most part, you will probably have to remove any food that can melt like chocolate, and accessories such as candles, soft metals or plastics that could be damaged in the heat. Larger items, like a TV for instance, will be properly wrapped in thermal blankets so that they won’t be affected.
How long will it take?
Nelson says it is hard to estimate how long the entire process takes because it depends on the size of the space, the type of problem you are treating, and how the severity of the problem. For bed bugs or termites, he gives a rough estimate of eight to 10 hours. But, for odors or crawl spaces, it may take a few days.
