Being injured in an accident is no small event. Your health, the source of your livelihood and the quality of your life can all be permanently altered. You’ll need the help of an experienced personal injury attorney in order to ensure that you’re adequately compensated. But what about your legal fees in the meantime? How much does it cost to settle a personal injury case?
That depends, says Jon Remmel, accident lawyer in Las Vegas, Nevada and partner at Remmel and Spear. The time and expense required to settle a case will be impacted by several things, including the extent of your injuries, the type of accident, and the insurance company. But when you hire Remmel and Spear, he says, you don’t need to worry about legal fees until you receive compensation for your injuries.
Why You Need an Attorney
Many people, after having been injured, worry about the expense associated with hiring an attorney to represent them. But, according to Remmel, going it alone is never a good idea. “You really need to get a third-party perspective,” he says. “Many people just don’t understand the value of their injuries and what other people are being compensated for the same types of injuries. We’ve got a better perspective on that.”
It’s also important, he says, to have an expert’s perspective on the potential extent and impact of your injuries. Although the need may not immediately be apparent, many injuries require future medical care. It’s important to take those potential expenses into account when seeking compensation. Additionally, money for pain and suffering and lost wages (both now and in the future) should be taken into consideration.
Paying for Your Attorney
When you hire Remmel and Spear, says Remmel, your attorney’s fee is based on the outcome of your case. “We enter into what’s called a contingency agreement with our clients,” he explains. “At Remmel and Spear, we put our clients’ concerns and interests first. We realize that we’re not the ones who’ve been injured in an accident. So, in most instances, we ensure that our clients receive the lion’s share of any settlement.”
For this reason, he says, there’s no risk associated with hiring Remmel and Spear to handle your case. “We don’t get compensated unless our client gets some type of compensation.”
What If the Case Doesn’t Settle?
Not all personal injury cases settle out of court, Remmel says. Sometimes, he explains, the insurance company simply isn’t being reasonable when it comes to compensating one of his clients. When this happens, the case is taken to court.
“One of the things that sets Remmel and Spear apart from the local competition,” he says, “is that we can take a case from a claim with the insurance company all the way through litigation and trial if that becomes necessary.”
Again, Remmel says, the firm only receives compensation if and when the case is decided in the client’s favor. “At our office, is it our goal to help you with your recovery and minimize the stress an accident can bring. If you don’t recover, neither do we.”
