Wind and hail can cause serious damage to your roof, but identifying the extent of the damage is difficult for most homeowners. How does a roofing company assess damage after a storm? According to Charlotte roof repairs specialist Steven Clark of Camden Roofing, assessing damage requires a careful inspection. Because some types of damage may be easy to miss, it’s important that the inspection be carried out by a trained professional.
The Inspection Process
Storm damage is not always apparent to a homeowner, Clark says. For this reason, his company offers free roof inspections. “To really see if damage is present,” he explains, “you need to climb up onto the roof for a close-up look. Some companies may try to tell you that there’s something wrong from the ground, but nine times out of 10, you won’t be able to see the problem until you’ve gone up a ladder.”
Once on the roof, Clark says, his team conducts a thorough visual inspection, looking for signs of wind or hail damage. It takes a trained eye, he says, to identify hail damage at times. Whereas wind damage is fairly obvious, hail damage is more subtle, but still compromises your roof’s integrity. “Our expertise allows us to accurately identify and describe the damage to your roof in order to show whether it is or isn’t still capable of properly shedding water,” Clark says.
If the roof has been compromised to the point where it can no longer effectively shed water, he explains, then the homeowner is at risk for sustaining water damage to his home’s interior. For this reason, it’s important to get the homeowner’s insurance company involved so that the roof can be repaired or replaced.
Dealing with the Insurance Company
Handling an insurance claim can sometimes be complex and time-consuming. For this reason, Clark says, his company is willing and able to work directly with the insurance adjusters to expedite the repair process and save homeowners precious time. From meeting with the adjuster to filling out the paperwork and then completing the repair work, Camden Roofing makes it simple to get your roof back in shape after a storm.
Choosing a Company to Handle Repairs
“After a storm goes through an area, there is a lot of roofing work to be had,” Clark says, “and you may be approached by any number of roofers about handling your repair work.” Many of these companies, however, are likely to pack up and leave the area in six months. If you’ve hired one of them and you begin experiencing problems, there’s simply going to be no one available to help. For this reason, Clark says, it’s important to hire a local roofing company to handle your repairs.
“Camden Roofing is available to Charlotte homeowners year-round,” he says, “not just during storm season. We offer expert inspections, a quality product and excellent customer service. And because we stand behind our work, we’re available to help should any problems arise in the future.”
