Timely, effective and efficient removal of waste from the job site is a critical element in any construction project’s success. What should you look for when choosing a waste removal company for your next project? Should you go for the lowest price? The best-known company?
Chris Darling of A Track-Out Solution, one provider of garbage dumpster rental in Las Vegas, says that there are a number of questions to ask before hiring a waste removal company, but that price shouldn’t be your primary consideration. Darling says that in terms of price, there really isn’t much difference from one Las Vegas waste removal company to another. Instead, he explains, you should simply consider whether a particular company is equipped and prepared to meet your needs, and whether or not its philosophy is consistent with your goals for the project.
Responsiveness
According to Darling, one of a waste removal company’s most important tasks is simply to get the job done on time. This becomes, he says, particularly important on a construction or demolition site where delays can become quite costly for everyone involved. “No one wants to have to wait for a new garbage dumpster to arrive before work can go on,” he says. “At our company, we understand that our responsiveness and timeliness is an important part of keeping a project moving.”
Environmental Responsibility
Darling also believes that a company’s commitment to environmental responsibility should also be a major factor in any decision to hire it. “At our company,” he says, “we take our role in protecting the local environment very seriously. We’re committed to recycling or re-using as much waste product as possible.” When handling construction or demolition waste, Darling says that A Track-Out Solution takes care to ensure that wood waste, scrap metal, plastics, cardboard, concrete and other recyclable materials are kept out of landfills.
In fact, Darling says, handling concrete waste is one of his company’s specialties. A Track-Out Solution boasts the largest concrete washout recycler in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. Because the water used to wash out concrete equipment is potentially harmful to the environment, Darling explains, construction sites are required to employ special techniques to ensure that washout wastewater does not enter the local water supply. Darling’s company provides a specially-designed, watertight bins to capture the wastewater and remove it from the job site so that it cannot make its way into nearby soil or storm drains. The washout system has the added benefit of capturing concrete waste for recycling.
In addition to basic recycling and pollution prevention measures, certain projects require particularly careful handling with regard to environmental issues, and some waste removal companies are simply not up to the task. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects, Darling says, are governed by green building standards and require extra efforts from every contractor involved. Darling says that his company’s work on one such project, CityCenter in Las Vegas (one of the largest green building projects in the world), resulted in the recycling of nearly 100,000 tons of concrete waste. Darling says that A Track-Out Solution is also authorized to file reports with the U.S. Green Building Council stating that projects are in compliance with LEED standards.
Minority Ownership
According to Darling, A Track-Out Solution also offers an extra benefit - the fact that the company is owned by a woman, Jill Tucker. Some projects, he says, require a minority-owned contractor on the job site. This is a common requirement in projects funded by the state or county.
In a general sense, however, Darling believes that the right waste removal company for any project is the company that will do the best job.
