If you are dissatisfied with your smile, the way your teeth look or the sight of your gums, then help is at hand. Dr. Kirk Petersen, DMD, who runs Hemet West Dental Office in Hemet, California, talks here about what it means to have a smile makeover, and how it can change your whole outlook on life.
A smile makeover is something that can either involve braces, Invisalign clear aligners, or it could involve crowns, Lumineers, implants and/or composite bonding. What it can do is just change the whole look of a person, it can change his confidence level, it can change his self-image, and it can even help him in his job.
In fact, a smile makeover is similar to cosmetic surgery. But it’s often much less invasive and also often less expensive. Still, it can change the way an individual feels about himself or herself, and can radically affect his entire outlook on life.
Smiles Are Important
In a survey, people were asked about how important their smile was to them. It’s interesting to note that three-quarters were not confident enough to smile in a photo, while 65% felt that a beautiful smile was important when it comes to romance.
The profile of a typical person who comes to us for a smile makeover is usually women aged 35 to 65 (we are in California, after all!). The people who come to us are usually not people who are missing teeth, they are usually people who are have discolored, worn or crooked teeth.
Also, one thing which is interesting is that often after we do the smile makeover, people will often either go and get their hair redone, or sometimes they get plastic surgery too. On those makeover television shows that were popular here about a year or two ago, it seems like the two things that people would always get done is the teeth and the boobs. I guess that says it all!
Good for Jobs
Some say they want to have a smile makeover because of their job. That, I think, is more often than not men. I think it’s because of the age issue. They want to look younger and think that having no wine or coffee stains and having beautiful, straight teeth will help them to achieve that.
Here are some of the things we can do with a smile makeover:
- Whiten teeth
- Straighten teeth with Invisalign, Clear Correct or traditional braces
- Repair chipped and broken teeth
- Close gaps between teeth
- Fix a gummy smile
