Nothing can ruin the reputation of a restaurant more than having a customer find a rat scurrying across the floor, or a cockroach in the soup. Brian Hanly is a spokesman for JP McHale Pest Management Inc., the leader in pest control and extermination across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. He talks here how restaurants can benefit from special pest solutions designed especially for restaurant managers.
Nobody wants their restaurant patron to find a bug in their food; that would destroy their business. So for restaurants we have a program, where we come in every two weeks to evaluate what is going on and take any necessary action.
We see a lot of cockroaches, rodents and sugar ants, which are, as the name suggests, simply ants that are attracted to sugar. They are common inside of homes, where they congregate in kitchens. If you leave anything sweet out — if you leave a bottle of juice out, for example, or if you do not wipe your counters down clean enough — then you will be inviting a colony of sugar ants to come and make their home in your kitchen.
This is especially true when it comes to restaurants. If you leave food out overnight when you are cleaning up, then sugar ants will appear. It’s the same for rodents, who will congregate in a restaurant kitchen after leftover food is left out overnight. Cockroaches also will eat any type of leftover food that is left out.
When we send our expert technicians, they come to do inspections, and they also come to do preventative measures to prevent insects and rodents from congregating in the restaurant. We put down products in areas where we commonly see pests and we supply rodent bait stations, which will be checked and re-baited if necessary.
Don’t Diminish Your Reputation
Restaurant owners will want to have a pest control company come in as they do not want to let their reputation get diminished from rodents or other pests. If the restaurant owner sees any area where he is aware of pests, we will inspect that area and do a treatment program, if necessary.
A pest in a restaurant, even one ant on the ground, can completely ruin a reputation of an establishment. Once it is on the news, you will suffer a drastic decrease in business to your restaurant. So if you are aware of any pests at all, get the problem taken care of quickly.
