Packing Special Items

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that it makes more economic sense to pack certain items yourself, says Deborah Secrist. She is a spokesperson for Beltway Movers, serving the Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland areas, and knows all about packing special items, such as flat-panel televisions and mirrors.

Clothes, televisions, pictures, lamps and mirrors are items that people often want to move themselves, thinking they can save money that way. But they can all be handled quickly and efficiently by local movers. It is not worth your time or the money to try and move them yourself in the back of your car.

You can save money by allowing Beltway Movers to move them, as we have a special system in place that is created expressly for those items. We use wardrobe boxes for clothing, and we estimate that a full two feet of clothing will fit in one wardrobe box. It is easy to do, and we can do it easily.

Flat panel televisions are another issue. What people are up against nowadays is that they wrongly believe that they have to buy a special box, or have one created or specially built to accommodate their television. But if if they use Beltway Movers, we have reusable creates they can rent for the day for their TVs, as well as for lamps.

For mirrors and pictures, we have designed our own special crushproof cartons that have slots in them. Imagine a big corrugated box with slots in it, like a toaster. We just take the picture off the wall and slide it into the slot. Obviously, that takes less than a minute. It is much faster than if I took the picture off the wall, wrapped it in special paper, put in into a box, and then taped the box shut.

We try to save time as time is money, so the crushproof box is an advantage. We don’t use this for interstate moves, but but our specialty is regional and local moving, and our systems work brilliantly for that.
