How to Treat Your Skin After a Rejuvi Tattoo Removal

Roxanna Liu | February 10, 2010

If you’re one of those people who happened to make the mistake of getting a tattoo that no longer serves you well, then it’s probably time to visit a medical spa to have it permanently removed. Thanks to the Rejuvi method of tattoo removal, the process of eliminating your unwanted tattoo is easier and less painful than ever before. However, before you jump at the chance to finally rid yourself of that unwanted ink, you should know that tattoo removal requires some important follow-up care.

Roxanna Liu is a licensed aesthetician at Bastrop Total Skin Care, a Bastrop, Texas, medical spa that offers a wide array of skin-related services and products, and she likes to prepare her clients for what to expect following tattoo removal. While different methods of tattoo removal might come with their own respective sets of instructions, the following are directions as to how to treat your skin following the Rejuvi process:

• Keep the area dry for at least three days. This will enable the treated skin to tighten and form a brownish crust before eventually peeling off. Additionally, minimize the amount of movement to the area until the crust does shed.

• After the first three days, you can shower briefly. However, water should not contact the affected area for more than two minutes. Additionally, the crusted area should not be exposed to the direct water from the shower faucet, nor should it be washed with regular body soap.

• Tattoo removal is somewhat traumatic for the affected area of the body, so you’ll need to do your part to allow it to heal. For one to two weeks following the procedure, do not soak in a tub, go swimming, or engage in rigorous activities that might harm the treated region.

• Do not to pick at or pull off the developed crust prematurely, as this will only increase your chances of scarring in the area. The use of a liquid bandage is recommended to keep the treated region clean and free of contact. During the recovery period, it’s also a good idea to wear loosely-fitted clothing that will not rub against the affected area.

• If the wound does get infected, then use a 2% hydrogen peroxide solution to sterilize the area, as well as an over-the-counter antibiotic cream. If such treatment does not help the infection, then consult with the medical spa professional who worked on your tattoo removal.

• Most people who undergo tattoo removal using the Rejuvi method do not tend to experience much pain or discomfort following the procedure. However, if you do happen to start feeling achy or tender, then over-the-counter pain medication should do the trick.

Now that you’re familiar with the aftercare involved in tattoo removal, you can prepare yourself for the process accordingly. Remember, if you’re looking to get your tattoo removed without having the procedure take a toll on your body, then you’ll need to commit to the follow-up instructions that you are given. There’s no question that tattoo removal might interfere with your routine on a short-term basis. But once your recovery is complete, you’ll get the benefit of not having to look at that unwanted tattoo for the rest of your life.
