Med Spa Treatments in Your 40s

Pooja Malik | January 25, 2010

Leaving your 30s behind can be a tearful experience, but there’s no need to let it show. Loads of med spa treatments are out there that promise to make you look younger. Remember, 40 is the new 20, as Dr. Pooja Malik of Mullica Hill Skincare in Mullica hill, New Jersey explains.

Let’s face it, getting older can play havoc on your looks. When you enter your 40s, several signs of aging will become readily apparent to most people. Loose skin will make your face — as well as other parts of your body — appear more droopy, and things may start to sag.

Some other things that happen as we cruise through our 40s is that our finer lines deepen, and we may start to see a loss of collagen, which is one of the building blocks of the skin. Our skin is just not as firm as it was in our 30s, and you may also notice more sun and age spots developing, especially on the face.

Maintenance Treatments

You may want to start on topical Retin-A at night, approximately three to five nights per week (this is for wrinkles). You might also want to eat foods containing more antioxidants (vitamin C, peptides, vitamin E), make sure that you always apply a good SPF, and use a cream containing hydroquinone (prescription strength, four percent) for the sun and age spots.

Procedures like Botox and dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse will work wonders at this stage of the anti-aging crusade. Before you start to look into more invasive treatment techniques such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery, it’s certainly worth trying these methods first.

More Aggressive Procedures

Chemical peels and microdermabrasion will also help smooth the skin so it appears softer and more supple. More aggressive laser procedures like MicroLaser Peels and ProFractional Therapy can be performed when the damage is more significant.

It’s not possible to turn back the clock completely, but by following a proper skin care regimen you can help keep the signs of aging at bay for as long as possible. Regular med spa visits can help you maintain that youthful appearance that we all dream of.
