Keep the Cuddly Pet, Lose the Stains and Odor That Come Along

Courtney Iseman | August 11, 2009

If don’t have a pet, you probably don’t need this service. That’s a given. But, you could probably also skip this service if you have, say, just one pet who is the best trained pet in the world and only has an accident about once a year. Unless that accident is a doozy, of course. Otherwise, if you a pet or multiple pets that do slip up every now and then, getting a company in to take care of the problem is a great idea. You can skip spending the money on product after product, and you can also skip the hours on your hands and knees scrubbing away.

We love our pets, don’t we? Maybe yours is sitting nearby right now, flashing those big puppy eyes or purring just so sweetly. Yes, it’s easily decided that the ups of having a pet far outweigh the downs – providing, of course, you know how to take care of those downs. Your or cat is there to cuddle, to play a game, to guard the house, to be a companion…and to have accidents. Hey, it happens. We all make mistakes. And the quicker you take care of your pet’s “mistakes,” the less you’ll hold it against them. When that little (or, bless you pet owner, big) stain is gone, and the odor that goes with it, too, it will be a lot easier to give in and let Fido hop up on the couch for a cuddle.

What is a Pet Stain and Odor Removal Service?

It’s as simple as it sounds. While pet stain and odor products are a dime a dozen, many of them do not work, and it’s hard to know which ones do (trust me, I’ve tried 8 or 9…or 23. Who’s counting?) So, why not bring in the professionals? Even if it’s something you just do on a less frequent basis to breathe new life into your home and rid the floors of your pet’s embarrassing slip-ups.

Basically, it’s the same idea as getting a general cleaning service, something you’ve either done or considered doing. While removing a spot sounds a lot easier than cleaning your entire house, without the necessary strength in products and know-how, it really isn’t so much easier. Between time and stress worrying about that spot that just glares at you every time you walk by, it might be worth getting someone into your home, someone who is a professional, who will walk in and zap it away faster than you can say “bad !” You need some expertise here, not only to get the stain and the odor out, but to keep the carpet or the furniture being treated looking as good as new. You don’t want to use a product that removes the stain but also the color of your couch with it, now do you? Besides, it takes a professional to rid the house of the odor, too. All these pet stain removal products we buy say they remove the smell, but they really just cover it up with a slightly more obnoxious smell that eventually fades back to the original odor. A service knows how to efficiently attack the stain and the odor, and not the carpet.

A service that removes the spots and odors that our lovable little buddies make is usually more than just that. It is usually a service that cleans carpets, rugs and area rugs, upholstered furniture, leather furniture, and mattresses. Some companies go further and include carpet installation, and rehabbing fire or water damage. So, while pet stain removal is just one of these companies’ fortes, they are the experts at all things cleaning. When it comes to the specific service they will perform for you by removing the pet stain(s) and odor, they will clean, remove the smell, remove old carpet and reinstall a new one if necessary, and they will treat discolored carpeting or furniture fabric to bring it back to the color it is supposed to be.
