If you are about to sell your car then you might think that paying to have it reconditioned before it goes on the market is an empty investment. Not so, says Aaron Baird. As owner of West Coast Recon, a mobile automotive reconditioning company based in southern California, he has concrete proof that his services can only increase a car’s resale value…
Why have your car reconditioned? Because your car will look nicer. Here is the concept. In today’s market especially, a lot of cars are for sale. And so if you are selling a Honda Civic, for example, 500 people are trying to sell a Honda Civic just like yours. Yours needs to be the best looking car out if you want to sell it, and if you want to get the best price for it when you do.
Not the Asking Price
So if someone is going to look at your Honda Civic and he sees a lot of minor dents and scratches and scraped-up bumpers, you are not going to get your asking price. He will look at your scratches and get the overall appearance that your car is run down and old, and will offer you a price accordingly.
Whereas is someone looks at your Honda Civic and someone like me has come out and taken care of all the dents and scratches and fixed the faded leather on the seats, it’s a different story altogether. Then he is going to come out and see a car that someone has taken care of well. Those customers will be more prone to not talk you down in your price, and they will have more confidence in that car itself as it looks like it has been looked after properly.
Increasing the Value of Your Car
That is why it is worth having someone like me come out and look at your care before you try to sell it, as my services will increase the value of your car. The Kelly Bluebook has different levels of how much a car is worth, according to the overall condition of the car. If the overall condition of the car is excellent, meaning it does not have a lot of scratches, the price will go up. That is better than a car that has a nominal value, meaning there is some wear and tear, visible scratches and things like that.
