Dr. Richard Parsanko runs Sonoran Desert Dentistry in Scottsdale, Arizona. While he, like practically every other dentist, strongly advocates flossing your teeth daily, he’s also found other (more fun?) applications for dental floss. Here are three of them:
1. In your kitchen: Floss effectively cuts through cakes, cheeses, and hard-boiled eggs. Plus, it’s cleaner and neater than a knife.
2. In your sewing kit: Floss works just like thread if you need to sew up a tear, fix a button, or reapply a hook.
3. In your jewelry box: You can use floss to repair and restring jewelry. It’s great for stringing beads.
But remember, no matter how creative you get with your floss, its main function is to give you a fresher, healthier mouth! Studies show that flossers have healthier mouths that those who only brush, and are far less likely to have halitosis, or bad breath.
