Why Has Lipodissolve Lost Its Popularity?

George Solomon | March 31, 2010

Dr. George Solomon is a cosmetic surgeon in the state of Florida. Currently in practice at AgeLess MediSpa in Port Orange, he is a graduate of San Diego State University, California State University, Dominguez Hills, and Ross University School of Medicine. In this article, he separates myth from fact and explains why Lipodissolve has fallen out of favor and lost its popularity with many women.

There were years in the past where Lipodissolve was a buzzed about cosmetic procedure that was supposed to help women get rid of fat and look better instantly. Unfortunately, that buzz has really faded over the past few years and few women are coming into our office and asking for Lipodissolve anymore.

To better understand, it’s good to know what Lipodissolve really is. Lipodissolve is a basically another term for mesotherapy, which is essentially the process of injecting a chemical, or a combination or cocktail of different medications, into a person’s fat area. Ideally, this combination of chemicals is supposed to dissolve the fat in that specific area — that’s why it’s called Lipodissolve, after all.

Although we still do the procedure here, women rarely ask for it. The reason is basically just because when women actually started using Lipodissolve, many found that the results were not as great as they had expected, and so from there is has just fallen out of favor.

In addition to the lack of actual results, there has also been a lot of scrutiny about the use of chemicals that are in the Lipodissolve injection cocktail. This cocktail includes a combination of something called phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate, and those happen to be two chemicals that have been banned now in some countries. Obviously, hearing that a chemical has been banned elsewhere does not bode well for women’s interest in using it here in the United States. So unfortunately I think that is really why a lot of people opt against trying out Lipodissolve — along with the fact that their friends who may have tried it could be reporting that they didn’t experience any great results when they used it, anyway.

Instead of using Lipodissolve, we find now that many of the women who would have been interested in trying Lipodissolve in year’s past are now asking to try out endermologie. Endermologie is basically a cellulite treatment that uses a machine to roll the fat on a patient’s body, and it goes under brand names like VelaSmooth and the VelaShape, both of which we offer here at AgeLess MediSpa.

As time goes on, though, new cosmetic treatments are always being introduced and older ones are continually falling out of favor. That’s just the way the cosmetic industry works.
