Can I Get Liposuction On My Face or Neck?

Dr. George Solomon physician in practice at AgeLess MediSpa. Renowned for his expertise in cosmetic procedures, Dr. Solomon completed a fellowship in anti-aging medicine. He is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine, and spent time working as an aviation medical doctor from 1999 to 2007. In this piece, Dr. Solomon tells us whether patients can use liposuction to slim down the look of their face and neck.

We can certainly do liposuction on the face, and for patients with full faces or large jowls, hearing that news can be a great relief.

I think people would be surprised at just how many patients come in to have liposuction performed on their necks and jowl. Sometimes it might be because the person has jowls that he wants taken away, and other times it’s just because the patient basically has a round, full face, and he wants more definition in his looks. Luckily, liposuction can be used to help remedy both of those situations, so we can do what they are looking for in those cases.

Here at AgeLess Medispa, I have some people who come in with a double chin or maybe even just a bigger than average neck size, or anything else like that, and all they want is a slimmed down look. For these patients, it might not even be necessary to take away much fat: All they need is a little bit of liposuction. So we will do a smaller amount of liposuction around the face, the chin, and the jowls to give our patients the whole, complete look they are going for.

One of the great things about liposuction is that the procedure can be customized for the patient. So one patient might want a lot more fat taken out of her face, and one patient might just want a little bit of the fat reduced, but we can still help both of these people and give them both great results using the same procedure.

As far as slimming the neck is concerned, patients who are interested in that could go with either a regular liposuction procedure or a laser liposuction procedure. It’s up to them, because both options can produce great results for patients who want their necks thinned down a bit.

Whether you as a patient would go with a regular liposuction or a laser liposuction on your neck would depend on how much you want your neck reduced — as in, how much fat needs to be taken out and what the size of the area that we are taking it out of is. If a patient just has a small little pouch that he wants liposuction done on, then the laser liposuction would probably give us better results because it is a more precise technique that’s better for smaller areas.

If a patient wanted a bigger fat area to be taken from his neck, then a regular liposuction procedure would work just fine. Occasionally we can even combine the procedures, and do liposuction on the larger neck area, especially if it is a bigger fat area that we are working with, and then just use the laser liposuction to tighten the neck.

We can do that because of the heat from the laser. That heat that’s produce actually coagulates in the blood vessels and generates enough heat to modulates the collagen and allows the collagen to reform again. So that process acts to actually tighten the collagen in the skin and make the patient look much, much younger than before.

Unlike some other areas of the body — such as the hips, the thighs, or the stomach area — it can be a little more difficult to disguise the bruising that sometimes results after undergoing a liposuction procedure on the face. For someone getting liposuction done on her face, I would say that she could expect to have maybe a little bit of bruising for 48 to 72 hours after undergoing the procedure. But if a woman were come into our office to have liposuction done on a Friday, or something like that, then I think she would definitely be able to use a little makeup and return to work looking perfectly normal by Monday morning.

Like I said, any of the bruising that a patient gets from liposuction is going to be very mild, and in most cases, the bruises are so light that they can be covered with a little makeup easily. I guess for a male patient coming in to get liposuction done on his face, disguising it would be a little more tricky. But still I generally tell people that they can expect to look completely fine and ready to go back to work within just a day or two of the procedure.

Price wise, the cost of undergoing laser liposuction versus traditional liposuction just depends on what area of the body you are having the procedure performed on. This can differ from office to office and which physician is performing the procedure, but here at my practice, AgeLess MediSpa, we charge the same price for people getting the laser liposuction or the traditional liposuction procedure.

So we would not want people choosing between which type of procedure to get based on price alone — we want them to decide which procedure to get based on which is going to get them the closest to the desired results that they want whether we are giving them liposuction on the face, the neck, or any other area of the body.
