Many people mistakenly believe that a ripped or dirty carpet in their car needs a full replacement. But Aaron Baird, who owns West Coast Recon, a mobile automotive reconditioning company based in southern California, says this isn’t the case. He says it is possible to repair car carpeting, and even dye it so it looks like new.
I see a lot of dirty, stained car carpets that require fixing of some sort. A lot of time the carpets are stained with tea or juice stains, dirt and other types of debris. Sometimes they are faded or have small tears.
We can spray a carpet dye on there, either gray or brown, whatever color the carpet is to restore that clean-looking “new carpet” look. It is simple and quick but is also a dramatic repair when it makes a big difference to how the car looks. Only For Small Tears
We only fix ripped carpeting if the tear is really small. Usually if it is ripped in any type of big way it needs to be replaced, unless the is rip is only an inch or so long. Our focus is durability of our repairs; when there is a large rip in the carpet, there is no way of fixing it to last.
If people want a completely different carpet, I send them to an interior restoration shop since it is too big or a job for me to carry those materials around. The reason for that is that everything I do is mobile. I go to people’s house and fix their car’s bumper. I have a big Nissan Titan with a cap, like camper shell on the back, and everything I do is done out of my truck.
Carpet Mats
We can also redye carpet mats. Now, people have carpet mats in addition to the carpet in their car. A lot of times we can just quickly redye the carpet mats as well to give them a new look. That will save them money from buying a new carpet mat since we can just redye them until they look like the owner had just purchased a new one.
