What to Do With Your Landscaping Before You Put Your House on the Market

Linda Jensen | October 9, 2009

Your about to put your house on the market. Holes are spackled. Carpets have been cleaned. All’s clear, right? Think again. Your landscaping, particularly your front yard, is the first thing people will see when they pull up. Linda Jensen, who heads Arrowwood Landscape Design, Inc offers these tips for those about to put their house on the market:

  • Clean everything up. Rid the beds of leaves, remove stray sticks, and make sure everything looks kempt.
  • Put down a fresh coat of mulch. It adds beauty by providing uniform color (such as red or black).
  • Remove the weeds. Sure it might not be fun, but weeds are definitely something that should be kept undercover.
  • some flowers for color. If you don’t want to hire someone to do that or can’t do it yourself, you can even put some on your front steps to add a dash of color to your entryway.
  • Make sure your deck and driveway are in good condition. That means sealing any cracks on your driveway and getting your deck stained or powerwashed to make it shine. Don’t forget about the sidewalk-replace any cracked or uneven portions.

By following these tips, you’ll ensure that your house sticks out to househunters-in a good way.
