When it comes to junk removal, a seasoned company will be well-versed in getting rid of just about any household or outdoor item you can think of. From unwanted gadgets to ratty furniture, the typical junk removal company will take away just about anything. However, there are some junk removal companies that have one exception to the “everything goes” rule: cars.
According to Jim Skelton of Able Demolition, removing a non-working vehicle involves special equipment, such as tow trucks, that not all junk removal companies have. Since the primary purpose of junk removal companies is to remove household and backyard articles, it does not make financial sense for them to keep towing equipment on hand. Cars also have the potential to contain hazardous materials such as gasoline, oil, and hydraulic fluids, some of which might leak or spill out during the removal process. Therefore, many owners of junk removal companies feel that it is best to leave car removal up to the experts. So, when Skelton gets a phone call inquiring about car removal services, he politely explains to customers that that’s just not what he does.
Of course, plenty of junk removal companies are more than willing to get rid of clunkers. However, Skelton reminds you that there might be some better options out there. For example, plenty of charitable organizations will come and pick up a used car – even one that isn’t working – and provide the owner with a donation receipt that can be used as a write-off come tax season. Other companies will come and remove a vehicle in exchange for the ability to sell off its parts and profit accordingly. The vehicle owner won’t receive any specific compensation in this situation, but the removal itself will be free. According to Skelton, it simply doesn’t make sense for people to pay a junk removal company to get rid of an unwanted vehicle when there are plenty of ways to get it done free of charge.
Although Able Demolition does not remove cars in their entirety, they can be called upon to remove leftover car parts, such as old or unwanted tires. In some situations, the company will even accommodate customers by removing used motorcycles, which are easier to transport and weigh a lot less than cars. Of course, Jim Skelton likes to remind customers that the same charities and companies that remove cars free of charge will usually extend those same services to motorcycle drivers.
So if the day does come where your car simply won’t go another mile, then think before you contact a local junk removal company. Sure, you might be able to find a company with the proper equipment to rid you of your now useless piece of automotive junk. But why pay for that service when you don’t have to? Of course, there are plenty of good reasons to seek out the help of a junk removal company, but car removal just isn’t one of them.
