What is a Medical Grade Facial?

Pooja Malik | January 25, 2010

Having a facial has never been better. Don’t just have a facial using store-bought creams; now you can have one using medical ingredients specially formulated to help your skin type. Dr. Pooja Malik is medical director and aesthetic medicine physician at Mullica Hill Skincare in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, and talks here about what a medical facial can do for your skin.

A medical grade facial entails using products which have active ingredients. By active ingredients, I mean products that are tested through intensive research for their effectiveness, and are most of the time dispensed only through a physician’s office.

That could entail combining the exfoliating peels with the facial with specific acids designed especially for your skin, including the glycolic acid, the salicylic acid, or the lactic acid peel. Depending on your own skin condition, your medical physician can customize a facial for you.

Combining Facials

At Mullica Hill Skincare, we usually combine facials. They are unique in the sense that we combine with or without the peels, depending on the skin condition of the patient. Also, before the facial, there is a full skin analysis by our skin consultant, and that customizes their facial to make sure it is exactly the right one for them, and their needs.

We use the glycolic acid peels for people who have textural issues, uneven skin pigmentation, facial blemishes, and even fine lines and wrinkles. Glycolic acid comes in four strengths, and depending on the condition of the skin, the medical aesthetician will decide which one to use.

Treating Enlarged Pores

We only use the salicylic acid peel for acne patients, and we also use it for people with enlarged pores. It reduces the appearance of both the enlarged pores and de-greases any kind of acne lesions, along with exfoliating dead skin cells and stimulating the skin to look fresh.

Usually after the conclusion of the procedure, there are recommendations made for some basic home care regimens that the patients can use to maintain the results of the facial. If you want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face or simply look younger and more rejuvenated and refreshed, a medical grade facial could be what you have been looking for.
