When it comes to remodelling or renovating, it is always best to hire someone who can both design a project and build it for you, thus overseeing the project from conception to completion. David Pinsley is vice president/senior designer/sales executive for First Rate Renovations, Inc. and Cultured Marble Products in San Leandro, California, serving the Bay Area. Here, he talks about why he is proud to call himself part of a design/build team.
I am a designer as well as a builder. That is what I am. When you come to me, you get a design, and I also implement the design by doing the work.
The benefits you get from me doing that is that the cost to you as a consumer is significantly less because I am not going to charge you for just the design. I am going to charge you for the total project, and the design will be included as part of that.
Just a kitchen design alone can be anywhere from a low of maybe $1,000 to a high of maybe $10,000 or $15,000. Whereas as a design/build team, we include the design as part of the service that we offer. It’s all inclusive and therefore will cost the client less.
The other big advantage to hiring a design/build team is that if there is a problem or a flaw in the design, there is nobody to blame but us — the design/build team who came up with the design in the first place, and now is implementing it. Nobody can point the finger and say, “Oh well, your designer made a mistake; sorry we cannot build it,” and now it will cost you money.
So you get the advantage of dealing with a one-stop shop, where nobody points the finger at anyone, and we take responsibility for the whole project. If you want to hire only the best professionals who know how to get the job done from its conception to its completion, then we are the people for you. We specialize in both bathroom and kitchen projects, and we know how to do it right.
