The Federal Trade Commission has listed identity theft as the most common form of fraud complaint they receive. It can take many forms, from large-scale corporate theft to petty stealing of individual credit cards. If you need help in solving any identity theft, a licensed private investigator can help, says Rick Roy, founder of Rix Investigations based in Phoenix, Arizona.
If someone steals your name, birth date and Social Security number, you are going to have a lot of problems. Identity theft can be an agonizing experience for people, and can affect even their personal and home life if the problem goes on too long.
That’s where the trained services of a licensed private investigator can be invaluable — to help you sort out the problem before it spirals out of control. While identity theft should always be reported to law enforcement officials, when the case is left unsolved, victims often come to us. In fact, this year we have been involved with several identity theft incidents.
Car Theft
Recently a woman used a stolen identity to fraudulently buy a brand new four-wheel-drive SUV vehicle. When she purchased the car, she asked that the OnStar not be activated on the vehicle. In her naivety, she did not know that we were able to find the vehicle using the OnStar.
In fact, we had the police looking for the vehicle while the OnStar was beeping the horn and lights until they found it. The woman had no idea what was going on; she was scared to death. In the end, eventually she went to jail.
The Real Victims
We do a lot with identity theft. It is a pretty cut and dried thing. Somebody has used different tricks to find out the Social Security and date of birth of another individual, and they use that information to get credit in their own name using falsified documents.
The real victims of identity theft are you and me, as our products are raised in price because of it, let alone what happens to you when someone uses your identity and ruins your credit. We can help you track down the culprit, and provide you with evidence of their wrongdoing to help you get back what you have lost.
