If you are considering renting a cabin in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area, there is plenty to see and do. Sevier County itself encompasses almost 600 miles, and is one of the largest counties in Tennessee. Tourism really drives the tourist industry here, so as you can imagine there are many types of attractions to visit.
Here are some of the most popular places to visit while you are here:
- Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It welcomes more than 10 million people every year. Located in southern Sevier County, it was established in 1936 and is renowned all over the world for its diversity of both plant and animal life. Enjoy fishing, picnicking, car camping, hiking and simply taking in the natural beauty around you.
- Dollywood, Pigeon Forge. Did you know that country-Western star Dolly Parton was born in Sevierville, and is the namesake of this fun park, which welcomes 2.2 million guests a year? It’s the most popular theme park in Tennessee, spanning 125 acres of fun and thrills. You can also enjoy bluegrass, mountain and country music, and also watch artisans demonstrate centuries-old crafts.
- Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Gatlinburg. Opened in 2000 and designated the most-visited aquarium in the United States in 2001, when over 2 million tourists passed through its doors. It has more than 10,000 exotic sea creatures that comprise more than 350 individual species, and you can even sleep with the sharks! Its new “Lethal Weapons” exhibit features the most deadly creatures in the sea, ones you never really want to meet.
- Ober Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg. The Ober Gatlinburg ski resort and amusement park sits above Gatlinburg, offering numerous attractions for visitors unique to the county, including winter ski slopes and an indoor ice skating rink. It also boasts “America’s Largest Aerial Tramway.” As they say, a “mountaintop of fun, excitement and mountain beauty is waiting for you.”
