Jason Deitch, a practicing attorney in Boca Raton, Florida, founded I-Need-a-Personal-Injury-Lawyer.com in September 2009, hoping to make a difference for people injured by the negligence of others by using his experience to direct them to a qualified attorney. Here, he explains how his service works.
Why do I need a personal injury lawyer referral service instead of finding a lawyer myself? You’re about to make an important decision that will likely significantly impact on your life. The reality is that unless you know the right questions to ask, you won’t know until your case is over whether or not the lawyer you have chosen really has the expertise, work ethic, or respect of his adversaries, all of which are necessary to get the job done right.
How is I-Need-a-Personal-Injury-Lawyer.com different from other referral services? Most referral services are not owned and managed by practicing attorneys who understand what attributes are most important in a lawyer in order to get the best possible result for the client. They simply refer clients to those lawyers who pay the referral service fee for their cases. Also, as a practicing attorney in good standing with the Florida Bar, I am fully qualified and permitted to give legal advice. This is not the case with most other lawyer referral services.
How do you select the attorneys you work with? I refer my clients to Florida personal injury attorneys who participate with the company by invitation only. I have thoroughly vetted or personally know them in order to provide you with the highest quality of legal care available. They do not pay me to be in my “network.” Instead, I am paid a referral fee of 25% out of the attorney’s fee earned by your lawyer. Since my fee is contingent upon the settlement or judgment obtained on your behalf, it is in my best interest to find you the best lawyer.
How much does your referral service cost? I don’t charge you any money. I am paid a portion of the fee that is earned by the attorney who I refer you to. I will be a party to the fee agreement between you and your lawyer, and will maintain professional responsibility on your file through its conclusion. This arrangement ensures that I will refer you to the attorney who I believe will get you the best possible result.
Do you handle any cases yourself? Generally, I don’t actually work on your case. Rather, I am your navigator, your case manager, and the person who recommends and oversees the entire case. This frees you up to heal and be available for doctor visits without the added stress of constantly having to follow up on every detail to make sure your personal injury claim is being processed properly. There are some cases that I am confident I can convince the defendant’s insurance company to tender their policy limit without the threat of a lawsuit and with minimal pressure. On these cases, I offer clients the opportunity to have me handle the case for a 20% fee. This can result in significant savings for the client, as most other attorneys will give little, if any, discount from their full 33% fee.
