You are never too old to have orthodontic work, and you are (almost) never too young! Derek M. Busciglio, D.M.D., runs Busciglio Orthodontics, a family business that concentrates on bringing beautiful, confident smiles throughout the Brandon, Florida, and Plant City, Florida areas. Here he talks about who is the best candidate for orthodontic treatment.
Most people are candidates for orthodontic treatment in one way or another. Whether they want one tooth fixed, straightened or re-aligned for aesthetic reasons or multiple teeth worked on to work properly, we can usually offer them something to benefit them.
Restorative and Prosthetic Work
Many times we work in conjunction with dentists who repair areas of the mouth for restorative or prosthetic work. For instance, if you lost a tooth years ago and the space has closed, your dentist may ask us to open the space again for prosthetic and restorative work.
A lot of time that’s what we do in conjunction with dentists, or something connected to aesthetics to straighten the teeth and give our patients a beautiful smile. After all, we make people proud to smile and show off their beautiful teeth.
Never Too Old
You are never really too old to have your teeth straightened as we have adults come to us all the time who wish to have braces. Sometimes they just simply did not have the money when they were children, but now that they are earning a living themselves they decide this is what they want to pay for. Other times they want better teeth to make them look younger, or even give them an edge when it comes to their job.
Saying that, some medical conditions could preclude someone having that type of work carried out on his teeth. We would always take the time to review the medical history of every patient and decide based on that if there are potential problems with treatment. Certain medications a patient may be taking and some bone disorders would be the top two issues that could preclude treatment.
But I would say as a rough guess that perhaps 99 out of 100 people could have orthodontics with no problem at all. If there is ever an issue you want straightened out, we can take care of it for you.
