Juvederm: A Youthful Engagement

Juvederm treatments are usually quite costly, and patients may find the injection uncomfortable or even painful. Also, although Juvederm is approved by the FDA and professional skin care community, because the treatment is relatively new it is impossible to know the long-term side effects.

As we age in years, we also age in wisdom…life …and, oh yeah… wrinkles. Luckily, with modern technology and scientific developments in the skin care world, there are more options than ever before to help get rid of those dreaded fine lines- from vitamins and supplements, to lotions in the drugstore, to an array of exotic facials.

For those seeking dramatic results, a lotion or facial may simply not cut it. And there are certainly more intensive treatments available, the most permanent of which being plastic surgery. But for those looking for something more effective than a lotion or cream, but less extreme than plastic surgery, specialized anti-wrinkle treatments like Botox and Juvederm may be an appealing option.

You may have had the term Juvederm before, or even know someone else who has gotten it. This anti-wrinkle treatment has grown in popularity and is commonly available at many medical spas. But many people still have no idea what exactly “Juvederm” is.

Here some answers to questions you may have about Juvederm.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler gel that is applied in a non-surgical procedure by a qualified physician. Juvederm works to “fill” lines and wrinkles for younger and smoother looking skin, using hyaluronic acid skin technology.

Juvederm is an hyaluronic acid- based gel. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that hydrates and gives the appearance of enhanced volume. The Juvederm gel is injected underneath the skin of problem areas and the hyaluronic acid adds volume to the skin, “filling” lines and wrinkles.

During a Juvederm procedure, a health care professional injects the smooth consistency gel underneath the skin using a fine needle. The treatment usually only takes about fifteen minutes, although a doctor consultation is also needed.

The application of Juvederm may hurt during and after the injection; sometimes the doctor will choose to anesthetize (numb) the treatment area to minimize any pain or discomfort.

The effects of Juvederm may last for up to one year.

Who Needs Juvederm?

Anyone with moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds is a potential candidate for Juvederm treatment- this includes those who have smile lines or nasolabial folds (creases running from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth).

Juvederm is also the first “FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color”.

What are the Benefits of Juvederm?

Through injecting the specialized dermal filler gel, Juvederm aims to add volume to facial tissue and restore a smoother appearance to the face. The results can be very dramatic and more noticeable than most over-the-counter creams or other treatments.

The results from Juvederm also last longer than from many other treatment options- the treatment recently became the only hyaluronic acid dermal filler to be FDA approved for results than last up to one year. With the actual procedure lasting only about fifteen minutes, this makes Juvederm treatment one of the most time-effective anti-wrinkle options.
