Do you know what DHT is? Rob Angelino, founder of HAIRLAB, a medical and natural hair restoration center located in Beverly Hills, California, details what it is:
DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone, a metabolite that is the main reason for hair loss. It is the product of contact between an enzyme in the skin and scalp, and the hormone testosterone. DHT attacks the hair follicle, so that hair thins and becomes finer, sometimes to the point that hair stops growing. This means that DHT interrupts normal, continuous hair growth.
DHT also creates a wax-like substance around the hair roots. This often causes male and female hair loss. Those who lose more hair are genetically dispositioned in producing more DHT than others.
A concentration of DHT-carrying sweat glands on the top of the head is why men tend to lose hair here. Women, however, lose hair all over.
