Fencing: your ticket to privacy

Your home is your haven, and your backyard should be considered an outdoor extension of your home.

A backyard is an attractive component of any attached or stand-alone house. However, in today’s nosy, gossip-obsessed society, many people are learning that a backyard is not truly complete until it is surrounded by some sort of privacy fence. If a fenceless backyard is causing you to stay locked inside your home, then it’s time to contact a local contractor to discuss your fencing options.

What are the fencing options available for homeowners?

Fences are available in a variety of materials. But as goes the general rule with most home-related endeavors, the higher the cost of the material, the higher the quality. Chain-link fencing is probably the cheapest option available, but it offers the least amount of privacy and can be less than stellar on the attractiveness scale. Cedar fencing is becoming a popular option for homeowners these days, as it is both attractive and conducive to privacy. However, many homeowners are put off by the amount of maintenance that cedar fencing requires (its color fades over times so you’ll have to spend time and money on re-staining).

An alternative option is composite fencing, which offers the look of wood without the hassle. Vinyl fencing is another favorite among homeowners, as it is both eye-catching and easy to maintain. Unfortunately, as far as pricing goes, it is also one of the more expensive fencing options out there.

A contractor who specializes in fencing should be able to recommend the best material for your fence based on your specific needs, location, and budget. To help defray the cost of a fence, consider asking a neighbor if he or she is interested in fencing as well. This way, the cost of the common fence wall between the two properties can be split evenly between you and the neighbor, thereby lowering your overall cost.

Who needs a fence?

Anyone who owns a home and values privacy can benefit from putting up a fence. If you have children, then a fence could become a key safety feature when it comes to backyard play. If you are a dog owner, then you should also consider having a fence installed, as a fenced-in yard allows a dog to play freely while preventing him or her from escaping.

Benefits of putting up a fence

A primary benefit of putting up a fence is the instant privacy that it adds to a backyard. Many homeowners feel more comfortable spending time in their backyards with the knowledge that people passing by can’t simply peep in to see what’s going on. From a safety perspective, fences are quite essential for parents who want to feel secure when their children are playing out in the backyard. Fences are also instrumental in keeping unwanted visitors out. From the rowdy dog down the street to local wildlife to nosy neighbors, think of your fence as your own .

  1. I'm glad to say that we have a great relationship with all of our neighbors and find no need for a fence to close out the world. I suppose we may get one some day, but for now we cross over into each other's yards several times daily.
